In May 2021, the 69th Miss Universe contest was held. The loveliest women from different countries around the world competed in beauty. But what interests us, is always the costumes)). Every year, it’s fun to observe the contestants’ National Costume Competition where they show their traditional clothing or outfits inspired by something that represents their country. We’ve chosen for this post those costumes closest to national dress or that feature some cute folk accessories. Anyway, enjoy the beauty of women and their wonderful outfits!
Bolivia
This outfit is a stylized version of Andean traditional attire but more sparkly and ornate. There are over 10,000 beads and sequins embellishing the blouse. Also, it is hand-embroidered. The veil is hand-woven using gold threads. The skirt is puffy and multilayered. And the headdress is large and beautifully decorated.
Bulgaria
This is an authentic 19th-century attire from western Bulgaria. It was originally used as an engagement dress. It sports beautiful traditional hand-embroidery.

Cambodia
This outfit was inspired by ancient Cambodian temples and statues. Also, notice the traditional Cambodian jewelry on the contestant from Cambodia.

China
This lovely costume is a stylized version of an ancient Chinese gown with modern elements. Her headdress is a wonderful replica of Chinese traditional headpieces.
Colombia
This outfit represents Colombian indigenous culture where women were protectors and rulers. The costume is extremely colorful, bright, and ornate. Her huge mantle looks gorgeous.

India
This attire is a traditional Indian sari, one of its many variations, anyway. You can see Indian traditional jewelry as well.
Kazakhstan
This is the folk costume of Kazakhstan. The white dress is made from silk and the red outerwear from velvet. Her garments are gold-embroidered, and her headdress is also traditional.
Korea
This outfit is the national costume of Korea. It’s modern, bright, and fashionable. The red color symbolizes good luck and love – Korean traditional wedding dresses are often red.
Laos
This apparel is the traditional Lao costume. Note the contestant’s folk headdress and hairdo. Her parasol is also a very interesting item.

Poland
This apparel is not a traditional costume, but what’s interesting about it, is the wings. Such wings were used by Polish winged hussars in the 16th-18th century as a part of their military uniform.

This attire was inspired by Vietnamese folk costume. Particularly, the headdress is traditional. Although, the outfit itself is not fully traditional. Still, it’s beautiful.
