Traditional pieces of the male and female national costumes in Czechia: baborák, blata plena, brslenky, bunda, caftan, cervenice, fěrtoch, honzík, lajblík, jelitko, oplicko, podstok, praštenky, rukávce, šněrovačka, uvodnice, velický, vinek, výkladek, and živůtek.
Baborák – embroidered female apron. It could be made from fine wool or silk. Also called fěrtoch.
Blata plena – large embellished scarf or kerchief worn over a soft, three-part bonnet. It is decorated with a lot of embroidery.
Brslenky – male traditional leather trousers.
Bunda – long or short male jacket.
Caftan – women’s garment that consists of a short colorful skirt and a white blouse.
Cervenice – male narrow breeches made from yellow leather.
Fěrtoch – embroidered female apron. It could be made from fine wool or silk. Also called baborák.
Honzík – female bodice for everyday usage. It was made from coarse cheap fabric and had a shape of a cylinder. Honzík had hooks for the skirt. Later it developed into a bodice called “lajblík”.
Lajblík – short vest, usually made from black wool or velvet. It was decorated with embroidery and had hooks or buttons on the front.
Jelitko – female bodice for everyday usage. It was made from coarse cheap fabric and had a shape of a cylinder.
Oplicko – traditional high-belted skirt.
Podstok – tall male hat made from pig’s hair. It was similar to a stovepipe hat.
Praštenky – male knee-length yellow deerskin trousers.
Rukávce – women’s white shirt with puffy embroidered sleeves.
Šněrovačka – female bodice made from very fine materials. It usually was a festive garment, so šněrovačka was decorated with embroidery. This bodice has a lacing – it is tied by a thin red ribbon. Also called živůtek.
Uvodnice – colorful scarf used for special ceremonies (e.g. christening). It was usually made from cotton and richly embroidered.
Velický – linen leg wraps that are worn from the knees to the ankles and cover about a third of the boot.
Vínek – headband worn by unmarried girls. The front part of the vinek (worn around the forehead) is red, and the ends (tied at the nape) are white. Usually, vinek is embellished with beads, sequins, embroidery, lace, etc. The hair is tied in a bun, braid, or ponytail.
Výkladek – traditional wide collar. It usually is white, decorated with lace, and often puffy. It is similar to a ruff colar.
Živůtek – female bodice made from very fine materials. It usually was a festive garment, so živůtek was decorated with embroidery. This bodice has a lacing – it is tied by a thin red ribbon. Also called šněrovačka.
