It’s not a weird sexy skirt. Not even a contemporary garment. It might surprise you but it’s a late-19th-century bustle. The back looks almost like a teenager’s miniskirt, doesn’t it?

Vintage American bustle cage from the 1880s. It is made from cane and cotton cloth. The bustle is small, but what a curious shape! It is tied around the waist under the skirt or dress. From The Met Museum

Bright red cotton bustle from the 1870s. It looks a bit odd but the color is so vivid.

Simple early bustle. American circular bustle cage made from cotton, the 18th century. It’s equipped with cute buckles.

Curious shape of a bustle cage. Intricate bustle from the 1880s made from metal and lace-trimmed cotton fabric. It gave your backside just a little bit of volume).
This bustle is from The Met Museum.
