Inuit women were highly respected by all the members of a family, because they were sewing clothes for everyone. And in Greenland you can survive only with proper and high-quality attire. Years ago people in Greenland couldn’t just go shopping and buy warm clothing. They had to make it by themselves. Men hunted and brought skins; women worked with those skins, made leather, fur, and suede, sewed clothes, and decorated it. There is even an Inuit saying: “A man is what his wife makes him”. It means that the life of a man depends on his wife’s skills in making good clothing. A skillful woman had all the chances to get married.

That's really interesting! It's amazing to think about the hard work and skill that went into making the clothing that was needed to survive in Greenland. I'm sure it was a difficult job, and the fact that women were so respected for it is really inspiring. It's also great to see that skilled women were rewarded with marriage opportunities. It's a testament to the importance of hard work and skill in this society, and the value placed on the work of women.
