These are examples of a very interesting and beautiful Ukrainian female garment. It is a kind of a wrap-around skirt called “plakhta”. This skirt usually was woven from wool threads. The patterns were various and bright.
There were several different designs of plakhta. On the photos, you see so-called “winged plakhta” – the flaps at the back are similar to bird’s wings and they move when a woman walks.
