The traditional Algerian garment called “djellaba” is used by men and women. It is a loose woolen or cotton robe. Its color shows the marital status of the wearer: light colors for married men and dark brown color for bachelors and maidens.

To learn more about this particular garment and other pieces of the national costume of Algeria read the article here: http://nationalclothing.org/48-nationalclothing/africa/algeria/113-traditional-costume-of-algeria-three-civilizations-are-mixed-in-the-design-of-algerian-folk-dress.html.

Algerian man wearing traditional burnous cloak made from brown wool. The hood has lovely embroidery décor and ties with pompons.
